It was reformed as a hurling club for some years in the twenties, and competed in the newly formed City Division. However the club was defunct by 1928 due to lack of numbers.

In 1959 the club was revived in football as a sister club to Blarney Hurlers in the Mid Cork Division. The first championship trophy came to Whitechurch in 1964 at under 21. Those young players formed the backbone of the club for many years to come.

In 1968 Whitechurch went on its own in hurling and football. Two Junior B Hurling Championship in 1968 and 1970 meant promotion to A grade but the club could not survive the intense competition in the Muskerry division at the time.

The football team reached the final in 1970 but lost to a Ballyvourney side that eventually reached senior grade. A decision to join with Grenagh saw the football team in 1973 final only to lose again. There followed a number of lean years on their own, where the footballers dropped to B grade and all efforts to revive hurling failed.

Then in 1984 a decision was made to join the City Division to provide a regular programme of games. The same year saw hurling revived. These decisions paid off handsomely with a clean sweep of the football trophies, a final place in Junior B hurling and qualification in the County B Hurling Championship.

In the following years the club played in one County Hurling and one Football B final, one Divisional Junior A Football and one Hurling final, without success. "At times it seamed as if luck had completely deserted us, losing on three occasions to last minute goals". However there was consolation with an under-21 hurling win, and Junior B successes in Hurling and Football.

In 1999 the club decided to review its operations as part of development planning. Shortages of players at adult and under-age levels, lack of team mentors and increasing pressure on players commitments due to work, study and injuries, led the club to decide that the future lay in amalgamating with a neighbouring club of similar size.

Following negotiations with Whites Cross, both clubs passed amalgamation motions at their A.G.M.s in December 2000. Whitechurch concentrated solely on hurling and Whites Cross took on the football.

The Corkmen of

Seventy Three

Come all ye great Gaels of the country, and listen to me for a while;

Its about the all-Ireland, all Corkmen, the greatest in Erin's green isle;

They conquered brave Clare and the "Kingdom," they humbled the pride of Tyrone.

And the maroon and white stalwarts of Galway, before them in glory went down.

In the scoreboard the total was given, Cork had scored "Three-seventeen."

Also high on the scoring were Galway, trotting up "two goals thirteen."

John Maloney then sounded the whistle, to conclude a fine friendly war.

Every man in the Cork team a hero, drawn out from the very top drawer.

When our idols stepped on to the rostrum, to receive Cork's half owned Sam Maguire.

With the seventy-five thousand all cheering, for the thirty best kickers alive.

Morgan our citadel guarded, our skipper our leader our guide.

He snatched the ball from eager forwards, and parted to comarades outside.

Reliable Kelliher fearless, Brian Murphy the corner stonewall.

And none can compare with Frank Cogan, to clear or to kick a placed ball.

Kevin Jer in his own sweeping fashion, with the polished John Coleman beside.

With the dashing Con Hartnett excelling, a gem on the Cork winning side.

The brillance of our centre-fielders, through the hour never put a foot wrong.

The steady drop-kicking of Coughlan, and the break away tactics of Long.

Declan Barron distributing freely, Dave McCarthy a link with old Clon.

With the Grange man the stylish Ned Kirby, compact, neat, nimble and strong.

The unerring right boot of Ray Cummins, Barry Murphy two goals in his tracks.

With the roving adventures of Barrett, a man that can never relax,

Brave Donnie Donavan trainer, who served our team month after month.

And the subs from the bench who came forward, Jim Coughlan, Mick Scannell and Hunt.

You went down in defeat Connought champions, but not in dishonour I say.

Again you' ll wear Celtic cross medals, in a not very distant day.

We welcome the trophy that's gleaming in a home by our own placid Lee.

We salute the great men who achieved it, the Cork team of "Seventy Three."

In footballing history we'll cherish the names of our team evermore.

May they spring forth again in the limelight, for the double in "Seventy-four."
